I was so delighted to be able to do these maternity photos for my beautiful cousin Kyanna and her husband Dekker. It worked out for me to be in Cochrane, Alberta at about the right time to do them and we headed to one of my FAVOURITE ever spots just outside Cochrane to capture her lovely baby bump and some golden hour rays : ) Despite being so windy it felt like we’d be blown off the hill I think these photos turned out beautifully (I even love the look of wind-whipped hair!) and spoiler alert: their little girl turned out beautifully too :D Kyanna and Dekker thanks for asking me to capture these special memories of waiting for your little girl!
I got to photograph this lovely family for the second year in a row (and will soon be photographing their whole extended family!) and it’s always fun to have repeat clients and see how kids have changed and grown. We met up at Meewasin Park by the Saskatchewan River right at the peak of the fall colours last year and we hit the jackpot. I had to blink at some of these photos the colours almost look surreal but I swear it really was that beautiful! Nathan and Twyla I am grateful you guys asked me to capture your family again and your kids are so sweet!
I have not blogged here in basically a year! Um crazy. Having a baby kind of took over our lives for the last year and a lot of things took a back seat so I feel like I am finally carving out a bit more time for all the things that have fallen by the wayside (oh my word the things….) but it’s slow going. So anyway, back to last fall and this family’s kind of spontaneous fall photos - seems like a good time to share them as we are heading back into those beautiful fall colours in the next few weeks! These are of the more candid variety, which I love because I feel like they’re truer to real life and capture genuine emotions. Some leaf-throwing, a bit of tickling, an airplane ride or two and lots of love :) Prepare for very golden-y golden hour goldeness!
I had been anticipating this session for a looooong time! I got to do maternity photos for my sister and her husband in July and then we all sat back and eagerly awaited their little guy’s arrival (spoiler - he came right on his due date!). I was so fortunate to be able to get out to Kamloops to visit them about 10 days after my little nephew’s arrival and we had a lovely few days of baby snuggles, visiting, and taking SO many photos - because when he’s just this cute how can I stop!?! Getting to do newborn photos for my sister and brother-in-law was so special - I hope you enjoy perusing a few of my favourites from this session : )
Although August around here was pretty smoky from distant wildfires we lucked out with a reasonably clear day for Ashley and Ron's session. With two sets of grandparents, a toddler, parents and two dogs these guys definitely kept me on my toes for the hour or so that we got to hang out together (especially now being over 6 months pregnant!) :) We met up at Paterson Garden, which is quickly becoming one of my fav go-to photo session spots! It's so quiet and peaceful there (perfect for incorporating the pets) with rows and rows of trees to explore. It's also one of my favourite things to include grandparents in a photo session because I think those memories are so special to have over the years! They also make great grandparent gifts ; ) I find photo sessions that involve young children to be great opportunities for candid photos (toddlers not usually being ones to pose for very long!) and I just love some of the moments we caught here!
Every year I talk my parents into doing a photo shoot with me for their Christmas card photos .... they always agree and always end up glad I talked them into it ; ) This year we went to a favourite spot of my dad's, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with a fabulously beautiful panoramic view. I love that I get to do this for my parents and love that they are such good sports! Also, they've been married for 32 years now so hey, another reason to celebrate! I hope you enjoy these!
I have been waiting for this session for a while because it means I am going to be an auntie SOON! :D But in all seriousness, it was an honour to do maternity photos for my sister and her husband who are expecting their first baby very soon! We were all out in Cochrane, AB at the same time and took the opportunity to sneak in a gorgeous sunset session in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. My dad gets credit for the location idea - he spends a lot of time driving through the foothills and finding all kinds of hidden gems and this spot definitely didn't disappoint!
Although we had to climb a pretty steep hill Kristina and Connor were great sports and the views from the top were stunning. The field was also full of lovely wildflowers which we totally took advantage of! I absolutely love how these turned out and I hope you guys do too! I can't wait to meet your little one!
The day we had planned for this session there were storms and rain off and on but fortunately, it all cleared shortly before our scheduled session just in time for a gorgeous sunset! I always love the river at sunset with its beautiful reflections and this night was no exception!
We headed down to the Saskatchewan River to get some photos of these two on the riverbanks. Kiersten and Carson's fun-loving and adventuresome personalities shone through as we explored and found an old log that led to a battle of "who can knock who off first" (which resulted in some fun candid photos!).
Kiersten and Carson I had so much fun with you guys, thanks for letting me capture some memories with you!
There is something so incredibly sweet and special about going from a couple to a family and I've been lucky enough to do this little family's maternity photos and then recently, a family session. It's so amazing to see a family born and develop - I seriously love it!
Tanya and Kent opted for an early morning session and I was more than happy to oblige! I'm a morning person at heart and a sucker for those early rays of light ; ) I wanted to find just the right spot for these photos and exhausted my current list of locations as not quite right. Then I spotted this little gem; I have passed Patterson Garden probably hundreds of times while driving and always thought 'oh those are lovely trees!' but never gave it a second thought. Then one day I passed by as I was mulling through potential photo locations for this shoot and my interest was piqued. Patterson Garden is owned by the University of Saskatchewan and has row after row of gorgeous trees - perfect for filtering those early morning rays! The best part is it's free and open to the public from dawn until dusk! I couldn't be happier with how this session turned out!
When Monique and Debbie approached me to do outdoor photos for them to use for their online business presence I was more than happy to accommodate! Winter is not the most popular season for photo sessions but I am a big fan of winter photos. There is special magic in winter light and that sparkle off the snow - and the sun sets earlier so it's easier to get that golden glow!
Despite the frigid temperatures (wind chills lower than -30!!) we got some great shots and President Murray Park in central Saskatoon never fails to disappoint! Majestically tall trees give the impression that you're in a forest despite never having left the city : )
These ladies were such great sports and their personalities really shone through!
On a absolutely perfect fall evening I met these guys and their adorable kiddos on the University of Saskatchewan campus by the river for some family photos. I love this spot for the variety of backdrops it offers - riverside vistas, lovely architecture, beautiful trees - you name it, it's there.
When I do family sessions I love seeing how each kid reacts to being in front of the camera and try my best to really capture each child's personality. With family sessions I like to get the requisite family photo with everyone looking right off the bat and then I like to keep things relaxed and fun, to explore the environment and wait for those moments when the kids really let loose to be themselves : ) Mary and Munier I hope I did justice to your sweet kids, I definitely had fun running around after them!
The Hahn family were the winners of my fall 2017 mini session giveaway and we met up on a foggy, cool fall morning to do some exploring and document some memories! Their two little ones were a bit shy at first but within a few minutes were playing hide and seek with their dad and tearing around having a blast! Prepared for a cool morning I had dressed warmly but soon I was more than toasty as their little guy kept me running the whole session to keep up with him ; ) I love watching kids be kids and it's always my personal mission to snap those in-between moments where true personalities and snippets of connection and family love shine through. This family was so sweet and lively that it wasn't hard at all to catch some genuine smiles and delight! Hahn family it was such a pleasure to work with you and capture your family : )
Tanya and her sister Sarah are both expecting within a couple of weeks of each other so this is the other half of the joint maternity session we did and we had so much fun! Down by the river in Saskatoon, with that perfect golden light and some good ol' Saskatchewan bugs providing a bit of magical backlit sparkle made this session extra lovely for some already very lovely people : ) I just love maternity sessions no matter if you're a first-time parent or already have kiddos, there is just something extra special about the expectancy of awaiting a new family member - the wondering and dreaming what they'll be like and the incomparable experience of growing a little person inside you! Tanya and Kent - I'm so excited for you guys as you embark on the journey of parenthood!
What could be more exciting than sisters expecting!? Sarah and her sister Tanya were expecting within just a week or two of each other so we took advantage and did a double maternity session all together (click here to see Tanya & Kent's maternity photos)!
We headed down to Gabriel Dumont Park by the river in Saskatoon around sunset for some gorgeous light and a bit of exploring. We lucked out with a beautiful evening and with a big group there was lots of laughs and chatting throughout our time together. Although there were some bugs by the riverside it turned out to have a magical effect - when the light hits them they appear like sparkles in the background - pretty cool!
Sarah & Cody thanks for letting me capture some memories of your adorable family and I'm so excited to meet your new addition SOON!
